Check out this excellent Philosophy Bitespodcast featuring David Chalmers who is asked about the technological singularity, whole brain emulation, uploads, and the possibility that the Universe is a kind of simulation.
I continue to wince every time I hear Chalmers, but this is better than some of the infuriating stuff from the late 90s and early 00s. Still, I wish we could get something from Dennett, Carruthers, Chalmers... someone who can skip past the "is it really conscious" silliness right to discussing the actual implications of the singularity itself.
