I've returned from Cuba where I attended a good friend's wedding (what a strange, beautiful and messed up place). I'm currently paying the price for being away for so long, but I hope to get back to blogging shortly. Stay tuned...
Some potentially big news while you were away George.
All hell broke loose in the IT blogosphere when Stephen Wolfram 'came out', saying he's finished implementation of an 'Oracle' ('Wolfram Alpha') which can compute answers to any question in plain English; his team of 100 scientists had been working in secret on the project.
If the hype bears out, this will make him a very wealthy man (it'll be bigger than Google) as the 'base' application for Web 2.0 and a big step on the road to Singularity.
Yeah, and obviously you can't just book a flight on Expedia. You have take a flight to Mexico City and book a separate one through a Mexican travel agency, or Canada as the case may be. But like you said, it doesn't seem to stop plenty of Americans from going.
However, I wonder if an FBI file is opened on them after they go. :)

Original news that started the buzz at this link:

Nice. I go away for a week and the Singularity almost happens.
Was that a direct flight from Canada? I know the usual plan in the US is to book a flight from Mexico City.
Yes, a direct flight via Skyservice Airlines. I was surprised to meet as many Americans as I did, coming via Mexico or Canada.
Would love to hear about Cuba.
