If someone is out there looking, we have probably already been detected. We do not even have to actively send. Assuming a civilization has an extrasolar planet search program that is a lot more sophisticated than what we have, they have probably already noticed unusual changes in our atmosphere due to industrial activity. Especially if they went through a phase of development similar to our own.
